Bacon Guacamole Salsa

Recipe for salsa with avocado and turkey bacon

I cannot believe summer is winding down and the kids are heading back to school. Sounds like most of us have been busier than we ever could have imagined. “Down time” these days is filled with work and play but not so much relaxation. This guacamole salsa recipe is for the last week of Summer Fest. Hopefully it will help you unwind and taste all the flavors of the season. Creamy avocado mixed with ripe juicy tomatoes and smoky bacon. What more could you ask for?

Healthy, homemade salsa for the home chef.

The past 5 weeks it has been so fun to participate in this fun fest. I have met new friends and gotten to know some great blogs. Our recipe adventures have covered Corn, Zucchini, Stone Fruit, Herbs & this week Tomatoes. For me salsa is the best condiment, sauce & dip. That is probably why I chose it for two out of the five Summer Fest recipes I created.

This salsa requires minimal effort. Collect your ingredients, chop and voila, your fresh guacamole salsa is ready. I went with nitrate free organic turkey bacon…..’cause that’s how I roll. Applegate Farms has a great line of organic nitrate free products. By the way looks like they just changed their logo, what do you guys think?

Telluride farmer's market organic cherry tomatoes

I picked up these juicy ripe tomatoes at the farmer’s market in Telluride. The colors of the hot peppers & tomatoes were breathtaking!

My kids had so much fun playing photographers & food stylists. My daughter got all excited when she got the lighting right. I love watching them shine with creativity & giggle with joy.

Mise en place for guacamole salsa

It was hard to convince them to keep their hands off the bacon.

My all time favorite meal is grilled salmon or trout with a heaping side of veggies, topped with large quantities of salsa. In Telluride I spoil us with Steelhead Trout regularly. The tomatoes, avocado & bacon accompany it perfectly.

  1. I’m loving the tomatoes this season. (well, I love them every summer). This is a great dish. I would surely ignore my avocado allergy for a bite of this.

  2. “What more could [I] ask for?” Not much. This salsa looks totally wonderful, Marla. I’m not sure I would have had the courage to add bacon, but I’m so glad you did. We don’t get local salmon where I live, but this salsa would go so well with our local grouper, mahi-mahi, and mackerel!

  3. Just as our winter is drawing to a close I’m reading about all these late summer recipes. I feel like I’ve won the lottery and have a great little stash of recipes building for the first of our spring & early summer vegetables starting to hit our fruit & veg stands. Thanks for this little number, its really colourful isn’t it.

    1. Anna, it is so fun to read how excited you are for Summer produce. It is neat that you can collect so many recipes to inspire you just in time for the new season.

Barbara, the bacon in this gives so much flavor. It adds a special dimension in texture, presentation and uniqueness in flavor. Don’t shy away…..go for it girl, I am sure you will be pleased! Your seafood selections sound wonderful.

Lynne, the sandwich as meal # 2 sounds like a great idea.

  4. Marla…your two little adorable elves look like they’re ready for a blogging session. LOL.

I never put bacon in my guacamole…something for me to think about doing next time.

As usual…everything looks perfectly appetizing and gorgeous ;o)

    Ciao for now,
    Claudia

  5. I’m a salsa girl, so this recipe is for me. This is the first time I’ve seen bacon in salsa. Brilliant addition. Your photography is stunning, too.

  6. I loved all your shots of the food; but it is the photo of the little munchkins that tugged at my heart strings! Too cute! and you son holding a blackberry or a gameboy or something is too precious!
Love that salsa, so refreshing and the addition of bacon would have MY son running back home!

    1. Joumana, I know isn’t that hilarious! The kids actually have our old iPhones. The features are disabled, but they are able to play games and take photos! They had so much fun that day. Great memories all ready 🙂

  7. Marla, love the Guaca -Salsa recipe! so fresh and love all of those wonderful tomatoes~love the fact that your kids are getting into the food styling, so cute! 🙂

  8. Wow, Marla, this looks incredible and I LOVE that you put it on top of salmon – great choice! I remember having my first avocado and thinking I’d found the holy grail of healthy vegetables, haha! It may not be the healthiest, but it IS the most delicious! Thanks for this recipe, and for sharing those awesome photos with us!

  9. You are my hero! This looks like a guacamole/salsa made just for me. Your photos are fantastic and I love that your little ones are right in there, snapping their own photos.

  10. I love how your kids are little food stylists! Food bloggers in the making, perhaps? 😉 The salsa looks amazing. Turkey bacon, avocado, and tomato are a match made in heaven!

  12. I need. this. meal. NOW.
OMG – totally drooling here. It’s a good thing you can’t see me reaching for a napkin, lol. GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Beautiful children always help too 😉 Printing this out for someone to make this for me for my bday dinner….

  13. Knew that bacon look suspicious? Turkey… Love the photo shoot with the kids. I’m always scooting mine away- good idea to let them have a turn. Salsa looks delicious, creamy avocado and crunchy bacon- yum.

  14. I love the kiddies taking the pics. That is som lovely bacon – and what can I say? The bounty of the season is art, isn’t it. I could just sit at the market and marvel. The colours, the smells, the flavours: and tomatoes are my fav. This recipe looks TO-DIE-FOR!
    YUM

  15. It’s so fun when kids get excited about healthy foods too. Such cute photos! Your salsa looks crazy good. I cannot believe my husband doesn’t like avocado. He just doesn’t know what he’s missing!

  16. You know, this reminds me of the Avocado Fest…when I met YOU!

Love the bacon in there. You might recall that I actually don’t really like avocados, but hey, there’s bacon, and the sight of your kids playing food blogger made me smile.

  17. So I couldn’t wait for someone to make it for me, I broke down and made this amazing salsa myself! Bought some gorgeous salmon and baked it surrounded by broccoli and little finger potatoes. Then I smothered the salmon with your salsa and the family oohed and aahed for quite a while. A HIT!! We all say thanks for the great dinner Marla!

    1. Kelly: I am so happy you went for it & made this salsa by yourself!! It is so simple to prepare isn’t it? The meal is made in minutes and it tastes like it comes from a great restaurant.

    1. Adair, you could go with guilt free/no nitrate, low fat turkey bacon & feel great after. Unless you are off the meat thing. If that is the case you could go with a meatless bacon “tofu” for flavor.

  18. Marla, thank you for posting this on Ben’s Birthday! The photos of your children remind me of our family when the children were small. They have always been involved in our avocado farm, and now carry it into the next generation with California Avocados Direct. Blogs like yours help inspire us to connect our family farm directly to the people who love premium avocados.

    1. Rachel, we had so much fun that day! They love watching me style food and of course they can’t wait to eat it when I am done 🙂

  19. Okay I have never heard of this recipe and this sounds heavenly and one I must try and soon thank you so much for sharing this one.
