1 Minute Blueberry Citrus Shake

1 Minute Blueberry Citrus Shake | MarlaMeridith.com

This post is a test. A simple test to see how quickly I can share a truly tasty little something. I just got back from spending a super fun day with my kids. We had a fun lunch out, a trip to Barnes and Noble for some new books & my expensive international food + design magazines. I can’t live without those beauties (my kids and the mags!) in my life.

The timer is set. My posts usually take hours and hours. I want to see if I can blast this one out in 40 minutes or less. Here goes!

Smoothies and shakes are quick and healthy ways to fulfill cravings for sweets. In our house we throw a few ounces of any kind of milk or yogurt in a blender along with some of our favorite fruits. Add to that a cup of ice and we blend a creamy shake in our handy dandy Blendtec blender.

I have to say it is nice to have a high powered blender around. It blends the ice to just the right creamy, icy consistency!

My son spotted a ripe juicy orange in the fridge, we have a lot of citrus here from the chocolate truffles I was making. I also had a whole lot of blueberries that needed to be used. So in went the juice from an orange and about 1 cup of fresh blueberries. Feel free to use frozen blueberries and please don’t trouble yourself with precise measurements. Please.

A lot of folks I know freeze homemade smoothies to pack in their lunch boxes for themselves and their kids. Have you ever done this? By the time lunch rolls around your shake is not longer an ice cube but a shake! Not to mention it can help keep the rest of your stuff cool in your lunch box. This is a great idea for Project Lunch Box don’t ya think?

What is your favorite shake recipe?

  1. Looks perfect and congrats on the speedy post. I’m guessing you still didn’t pull this off in under 40 mins but hopefully under 60-75 mins πŸ™‚

Blogging and sharing things and simple recipes is never quite as ‘simple’ as it seems, is it. Especially when the photography is as gorgeous as yours and the amt of time you put into it!

    1. Averie, if my internet connection hadn’t crashed and lost part of the post I would have been right on target. Let’s also add an extra 5 for the shot of the shake. Thank goodness the other photos (blueberries and clementines) are in my library ~ those would have added many, many more minutes. You are right ~ even a quickie post has way more to it than meets the eyes πŸ™‚

  2. We are a big smoothie family, perfect start to the morning. I keep frozen berries, peaches, mangoes, and always have bananas to throw into smoothies. Love the idea of a quick post!

  3. Marla, what a gorgeous color. We too, love a morning shake, it’s a ritual for Isaac, Eli, and I(we add a bit of protein powder) and my kids are ready to start their day. Love the frozen shake idea…I am going to have to lift that one! x

    1. Susan, awesome how quick delicious shakes are to make. Protein powder is always a great add in as are nuts and nut butters. Heck, homemade whipped cream is great too!

    1. Allison, this post was my quickest yet. Thankfully I have a huge archive of photos to choose from. I did however take a quick pic of this smoothie. Pretty much took the 40 minutes ~ not including making the smoothie & the photo. 40 minutes computer time! PB is not negotiable – you are correct on that one πŸ™‚

  4. I love the sound of a blueberry citrus smoothie! Your photos are lovely πŸ™‚ I could pick one of the blueberries right out of the picture!
I love smoothies with nut butter mmmmm, I’m with Allison, peanut butter is a must! Thanks so much for sharing my link – pb + banana is our family fav πŸ™‚

  5. Not too shabby for a 40 minute post! πŸ˜€ I know what you mean, though. It takes so long to pull together a post from start to finish. Your posts are always top notch quality. I love and appreciate that!
As for the smoothie (sipping on my blueberry spinach for breakfast at the moment), I love it! I never thought to put orange in my smoothies. I’ll have to give it a go! πŸ™‚ Thanks Marla!

    1. Sommer, quick, delicious & nutritious is a great thing isn’t it?! Especially when trying to get the kiddos out the door. All else fails they can drink it in the car.

  6. Thank you so much Marla!
I know what you mean…I feel like blogging takes so much time these days. I have a lot of other things on my plate, so I’m trying to figure out ways to make creating posts go a lot faster!

  7. Hi,

Thanks for sharing this delish recipe — I thought my Mexican food recipe bloggers would enjoy this so I shared it on my blog with a link back to yours: http://www.mexfoodrecipes.com. Amazing how easy it can be to create extremely healthy and yummy treats like this one!
    Have a great day,

  8. Okay, I love the idea of packing a frozen smoothie in my kids’ lunch box (or my own). I know they would be so excited to open their lunch boxes and find a creamy, fruity smooth nestled alongside their other goodies.

  9. We make the exact shake, using almond milk and Greek yogurt, but I add the whole peeled orange, not the juice only. I also add a frozen banana, a bit of frozen pineapple or mango, ground flax seed, and chia seeds. No sweetener is needed with those fruits added, and there’s plenty of fiber.

  10. So, how many minutes did it take – start to finish? Your photos are fabulous – seems like they would have taken more than 40 minutes all by themselves. Must buy blueberries!

  11. Do you mind if I quote a few of your posts as long as I provide credit and sources back to
your webpage? My website is in the very same niche as yours and my visitors would truly benefit from a lot
of the information you provide here. Please let me know if this alright with
    you. Thanks!
