Chocolate Dipped Fruit on a Stick

What is it about the simplicity of chocolate covered fruit that makes us all smile? With Valentine’s day around the corner I wanted to share one of the most popular treats – with a few of my little twists. I always use the best chocolate and I had tons of fun with the toppings as you can see. Treat yourself, your kids or your grown up Valentine to these small, delightful indulgences. After an overwhelming response to my Raspberry Cream Cheese Pan-Crepes, I thought that we should dive a bit further into Valentine’s goodies.

There is so much more than strawberries out there when it comes to dipping. Sure those are delicious, but so is citrus, blackberries, blueberries and raspberries, bananas, apples, etc. Come to think of it there is not much I don’t love dipped in chocolate. My friend Damaris just wrote a lovely post about family fondue night. It was a great inspiration to start melting blocks of our favorite treat.

OK, so these mandarins are not on sticks (they kept sliding off) but they sure were tasty anyway and easy to hold in your fingers when dipping. I added some stevia granules and dried orange rind to some and rock salt to others. The salt was way much – I would change that idea to coarse rock sugar next time.

Some of the chocolate I spiced up with ginger, cardamom and cinnamon for a playful flavor twist. You can use your favorite kind of chocolate. From dark to milk and even white, have it your way. I love unsweetened 99% that I sweeten myself with stevia. My kids enjoyed when I brought these treats to school at pick-up. They too love the dark, rich stuff like their mama!

You know what is the best part about chocolate dipped fruit? It takes just a few minutes to make & it tastes heavenly with virtually no effort at all.

My favorites were the blueberries. There was the perfect ratio of chocolate to fruit & they are so easy to pop in your mouth. If you use larger fruits such as bananas or apples, simply cut to bite sized pieces before you dip. Not rocket science and that makes it all the more fun.

  1. I will take a bouquet, please!!! My kids are very
particular about their fruit so when I want them to eat something
new I always include chocolate. Yet, never thought of the
    non-perils! mmmmmm! x

  2. Marla! You are NAUGHT-TEE!
This would actually be a nutritious snack with dark chocolate, sans sprinkles – but who would leave them out – they add the personality to each piece.
    LUCKY DUCKY kiddies!
    🙂

  3. They look adorable and are just perfect for Valentine’s Day when you want to give your loved ones a healthy treat. Bananas are my absolute favorite fruit to dip chocolate in followed by Strawberries. The natural sweetness of the Bananas make it sweet enough to not have to add anything and I roll them in all kinds of nuts. My kids devour them and actually prefer them over candy.

    1. Xiaolu: My kids love fruit no matter what too. This is a treat – but yes, nice to have a healthy one that they love! Always playful & fun over here.

    1. Averie: I love how you are exploring photography. It is so exciting to buzz around and see what everyone is up to. If you get the big lens I am sure you will love it. So nice not to change lenses all the time. Zoom + wide angle was a great invention. Thanks for your sweet compliments!

  4. Oh I love these chocolate fruit lollipops! My niece
& nephew are coming over and I’m going to make these yummy
    cutie for them! 🙂

    1. Betty: Now How could have I forgotten about those cherries??!! Chocolate covered cherries are amazing. Perhaps so wonderful to have their own post sometime in the future!

  5. Thank you for finding me on TastyKitchen. I was about to
add your blog to Google Reader, but decided to just add it to my
“Favorites” instead because the site itself is pretty and I don’t
want to miss out! Looking foward to trying some of these recipes
out. We have recently made “the switch” and I’m a bit
    lost!

  6. Fresh fruit…quality chocolate and much fun…what more
can we ask for? Adorable post and how lucky are those kids of yours
;o)) Have a great week, Claudia

    1. Damaris: Ooooo, Asian Pear sounds wonderful. Pears and chocolate are always a great combo. Thanks again for inspiring me with your fondue! I still need to get you that playlist so we can work off all this chocolate!

  7. I’ve never thought to dip fresh berries other than
strawberries in chocolate before, but it makes perfect sense when
you think of all the chocolate covered dried berries that we always
see. I bet the blueberries would be divine with the dark chocolate!
I also like the combination of ginger and chocolate, so I might use
some chopped candied ginger to top them off.

    1. Sylvie: I am so happy you stopped by. Candied Ginger and dark chocolate is one of my all time favorite combos. Last Valentine’s day I posted Dark Chocolate Truffles with Ginger & smoked paprika. Think I need to make those again soon!

  8. These are so beautiful, Marla! So many endless
possibilities with different fruits and kinds of chocolate. And so
much fun for the kiddies too! Love it!

  9. This is seriously my kind of dessert. I love bananas dipped
in chocolate with chopped nuts. Oh oh oh….. your photos are
gorgeous and definitely tempting. I want a dipped
    blackberry!!

    1. Aggie: Bananas dipped in chocolate has got to be one of my most treasured foods on this planet. Yes indeed! Thanks for your sweet compliments 🙂

    1. Dara: Glad you noticed the spices in the chocolate, they add a very fun flavor twist! Anything goes, creativity is always encouraged over here 🙂

    1. Thanks Kelly! I am glad they are coming around again for this Valentine’s Day. I had a blast making these last year & will now need to make a batch this weekend!

  10. This is perfect timing, because I was just thinking this morning that I wanted to make chocolate-dipped strawberries for my daughter’s pre-K Valentine’s Day party, but didn’t know whether to leave the greenery on or not. Never even though about putting them on a stick. Yay!

    1. Hi Debbie, glad I helped you solve that problem 🙂 These are fun to make & the kids can help too. Not to mention they are delicious to eat!

  11. They look great and I am planning on adding them to my daughters b’day menu. Could they be made in advance or are they best eaten immediately?
