Tropical Papaya Strawberry Avocado Shake

Tropical Papaya Strawberry Avocado Shake | recipe on MarlaMeridith.com

The nice thing about making milkshakes is the great amount of fun you can have experimenting with different flavor combinations. We whipped up two shakes in a row. The first had just papaya and strawberries. For the second one I threw in half an avocado for kicks. Both shakes were super tasty. Do you ever use avocado in sweets? It adds nice texture & flavor and is also a healthy fat to help satisfy. I have a recipe for Vegan Avocado Scones you can give a whirl too.

Let’s make some shakes!

I have to tell you that I don’t usually go for papaya. I needed one for the cookbook I am shooting & I only needed a small amount for that. As we all know papayas are large in size.

Did you know the seeds are edible? My daughter was the first to try. They are spicy, taste a bit like peppercorns and do not taste at all like the fruit itself. Many people eat papaya seeds and the extracts for health benefits. The jury is out on the actual benefits or lack thereof for the seeds.

In our house we will stick with the fruit…

Papaya, like avocado is used in all kinds of sweet and savory dishes. It is great in salsa, salads and sauces. Also in smoothies. shakes, ice cream, sorbet and more!

Strawberries contrast with some acid and zesty flavor to the sweet papaya. A cool contrast if you ask me. A blend of coconut milk and almond milk are the creamy base. You can use both or one in any ratio you desire. When it comes to smoothies and shakes I try not to get all caught up in measurements.

Simple adjust sweetness to taste. This will vary depending upon your taste preferences and how ripe your fruit is…

  1. I have never used avocado in a sweet, but I love them, so I bet it’s great!! I love the idea of the smoothness and healthy fat it would add.

And as usual, your bright, gorgeous photos take my breath away!!

  2. Your shakes are gorgeous, Marla! I’ve been on a real shake kick lately — love them to cool down after a workout! Your photos are stunning, I especially love your shot of the fresh papaya!

  4. We love papayas and all tropical fruits in our house. There are different kinds of papayas, the smaller ones are sweeter than the Caribbean ones. We like the smaller ones but they’re not as easy to find. Can’t wait to see your photos on the upcoming Trader Joe’s cookbook.

  6. I am with you on the papayas we get here…. but in Hawaii? I’d eat them morning, noon and night!! Putting them in a milkshake is a great way to use them even if they aren’t from Hawaii!!

  8. We definitely love avocados in our household as well. I’m not sure if I posted one of our recipe for that yet, but it was a constant hit too whenever we have it at home. Being raced in Asian country papayas and avocados are very famous on shakes. This one’s a perfect post to rekindle the memories and make one for my children now, who are not so keen into those 2 fruits. Love your photography style. You always have the eye for your readers to salivate over your recipes.
