Cherry Earl Grey Applesauce

Pink Lady apples are the perfect combo of sweet & tart. They don’t turn brown easily & they have a delightful crispy-crunch when you bite into them. Second up I like Granny Smith & Honeycrisp. No matter what your favorite apple you can make a great fresh homemade applesauce.

8 organic Apples (about 3 pounds,) cleaned, cored and cut into chunky pieces. I use Pink Lady, Honey Crisp & Granny Smith apples.
1 1/2 cups fresh or frozen pitted Cherries
2-3 Earl Grey tea bags (use more or less depending on how strong of a tea flavor you want)
 1 cup hot Water
Optional
Stevia, pure Maple Syrup, Honey or Sucanat
sprinkle with cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom or pumpkin pie spice

Brew tea in hot water for a few minutes. Squeeze out excess tea and discard bag(s). In a large saucepan add apples, cherries and tea. On medium high heat, bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium, loosely cover pot and simmer for about 30 minutes. Apples should be mashable. Take pot off stove and let cool a bit. Add applesauce to food processor or blender and puree until desired consistency is reached. Add additional water for thinner applesauce. Enjoy your applesauce by itself or make layered parfaits with Thick Greek Yogurt.
