Recipe: Lightened-Up Sesame Chicken with Broccoli & Couscous

Forget the take out! You can make your own Sesame Chicken with Broccoli at home and way cheaper and healthier than the restaurant version.

1 pound chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces
3 tablespoons soy sauce or tamari (gluten-free option)
 2 tablespoons honey
 2 tablespoons toasted sesame seeds
 2 tablespoons toasted sesame oil
 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1 teaspoon sriracha (add more if you like it spicy)
 1 teaspoon fish sauce
 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
 2 tablespoons cornstarch
 1 egg white
 2 tablespoons grapeseed oil
For the couscous
1 1/2 cups pearl couscous, cooked to package directions
 3 tablespoons toasted sesame oil
2 tablespoons soy sauce or tamari
 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
 2 tablespoons chopped green onions

1

Make the sauce: combine the soy sauce and honey to create a paste. Add the sesame seeds, sesame oil, lemon juice, sriracha and fish sauce. Combine well.

2

In a bowl combine the egg and cornstarch. Dredge the chicken in this mixture. Heat the grapeseed oil in a pan over medium-high heat. When it’s glistening add the chicken. Brown chicken on all sides until cooked through, about 10 minutes.

3

Cook the couscous. Toss with sesame oil, soy sauce and sesame seeds.

4

While the chicken is cooking, steam the broccoli.

5

Pour the sauce in a large bowl. Add the chicken and the broccoli. Stir to combine.

6

Plate the couscous, then top with the chicken & broccoli and sliced green onion.
