  17. I love cooking our Christmas dinner! This year, it will be on Christmas Eve due to travel schedules. But I’m so thankful to have our family here! Beef tenderloin, southern sweet potato casserole (with bourbon and pecans- no marshmellows!), asparagus and salad.

  50. My family loves English Rocks which are like a fruitcake cookie but I use cranberries instead of raisins. I only make them at Christmas. I don’t use Citron but use candied pineapple and red and green cherries.

My favorite thing to cook for any Holiday gathering or family gathering is a recipe taught to me by my husband’s teenage daughter Elizabeth, from Mexico. she was taught by her Mother and Grandmother, also from Mexico. Enchiladas. I like doing all the prep work ahead. Shredding cheese, if not bought preshredded. Cutting onion, minced, pre boiling and peeling and chopping potatoes. Precooking and shredding chicken breasts. I buy canned El Paso Enchilada sauce, I like red mild so all family can enjoy together. I lay out and assembly line with cookie sheets. Heat oil and dip quick quick flour tortillas into ans out of the hot oil. Then dip them quick quick into and out of the heated Enchilada sauce. Then the assembly line. I do half onion, cheese, potato and the other half I add shredded chicken spareingly. I use different size flour tortillas to tell apart. Then I bake in oven to heat through and meld all ingredients. They are so good the next three days. Family take home their share and we enjoy for many meals together.

  53. I love to make turkey for Christmas dinner. I’ll do some side dishes that are a little different from Thanksgiving fare, such as a cheesy potato dish, to make the turkey a little more elegant and festive.

  54. My favorite thing to cook for the holidays is City Chicken, which is actually pork and beef cubes on a stick, breaded, browned, and baked. Usually my brother-in-law makes it for us, but if he can’t, I must. Our family insists.

  85. My favorite thing to cook for the holidays is a simple pumpkin pie with homemade whipped cream. My hubby’s birthday is December 1st, and he doesn’t like cake, but he LOVES pumpkin pie, so I always make him one for his birthday and usually one a week for the month of December as a month-long birthday “treat”.

  94. Homemade raviolis is my favorite to make! Our recipe is my Husband’s Grandmothers recipe! They are delicious and there is nothing like homemade raviolis with Spinach, parmesan cheese, chicken and pork, ricotta, nutmeg! They are so delicious! We will make about 175 to 200 raviolis!   106. I have a recipe for what we call “Thel” bars that my mother-in-law got from a little 87 year old lady by the name of “Thel” in Whitesboro Texas over 35 years ago and we all just love them. They are made from graham crackers, coconut and lots of butter. The whole family just loves them and sometimes even hides a stash for later.

  113. I love making candy cane cookies and Russian teacakes at Christmas. This year, I’ll be making the teacakes on the second or third day of Christmas, because my little bro is coming to visit, and they’re his fave, too!

It is the one time of year we have prime rib (with horseradish sauce), and I usually serve it with some kind of potatoes and a crispy green salad with oranges, avocado, red onion, and vinaigrette. Dessert varies. This year, it will probably be a fresh apricot pie that I have par-baked in the freezer or a small salted-caramel chocolate cake from my local French bakery.

Ree makes the best dough for cinnamon rolls, its a huge batch, so plenty to go around, and the fillings can go from savory to sweet, I made candied ginger/tangerine, cinnamon/brown sugar, bacon/maple, maple/apple, pumpkin butter, sweet potato butter, and pecan. I also spooned some into my popover pan and baked it off, it was so plush and heavenly.

  134. I love to make lots of different things, but I have recently found a love for cranberry sauce. The popping of the berries while they’re boiling gets me excited! Ha! I add about a 1/4 cup of crushed pineapple and it just gives it that little bit of extra happiness.

I love the feeling I get when someone tastes my food and they say its delicious which makes me feel accomplished and wanting to cook something that is even tastier and better then the first dish.

  167. I do the Thanksgiving turkey dinner and my sister does the Prime Rib Christmas dinner (at my house). So that leaves me plenty of time to bake some cookies. My favorites are Russian Teacakes ( with pecans) and of course the cut out and frosted Sugar Cookies. My dear MIL used to make the best Chex Party Mix. I’m going to search for her recipe if I have any extra time.

  169. The holidays aren’t complete without making enough pierogi’s to last my family of 4 a year. My husband and I will spend two days making the fillings, dough, and then assembling the pierogi’s. It’s a nice bonding experience, and something we hope our kids can help out with when they’re old enough.

  176. My favorite thing to make for the holidays are chocolate covered fruits, oranges, pomegranite seeds, berries, etc. Use a high quality dark chocolate and sprinkle with a couple grains of sea salt and you have a easy healthy treat.

  177. My favorite thing to make for Christmas is a French toast casserole for Chirstmas breakfast. I make it up the night before and let the bread soak up the egg mixture. I add a little bourbon as well as some raisins, chopped apples and nuts. When it cooks it puffs up and makes a nice breakfast with very little work.
