Valentines Day Scharffen Berger Giveaway

Valentine's Day chocolate giveaway on MarlaMeridith.com

*This giveaway is now closed. Thanks for all your entries. Please stay tuned for more fun giveaways soon. Congrats to Kari H comment #101. Enjoy your Valentines Day & Scharffen Berger!

With Valentine’s Day in just a few weeks I wanted to give you a little token of my love for you. I am so excited to host another giveaway with my favorite chocolate, ScharffenBerger. I enjoy using this super high quality chocolate & cocoa powders in my baking & sweet treats because it has such great flavor. When I eat chocolate I want it to taste like chocolate & nothing else.

Cocoa powder, chocolate bars & dessert cookbook giveaway

I prefer the darkest of the dark. Usually I sweeten the unsweetened baking bars & rich cocoa powders with stevia to taste. You could of course skip that extra step & enjoy a semisweet, bittersweet and their milk chocolate bars as is. No worries it’s all good, it’s chocolate right??!!

Some my favorite recipes using chocolate are below & please visit my recipes page for more.

John Scharffen Berger Essence of Chocolate Book

The Essence of Chocolate Book by John ScharffenBerger is a great read. Not only is it a wonderful cookbook, it also walks you through the process of how this wonderful chocolate is crafted. It is loaded with dreamy recipes for cakes, cookies, bars, brownies & all kinds of confections.

  1. I am thinking of making my husband’s favorite meal: steak and mashed potatoes AND, of course, a dessert that is decadently rich in chocolate. 🙂

  2. Fabulous giveaway Marla! I love Scharffen Berger’s
chocolate…especially their dark chocolate. Yum! I will actually
be in NYC for work on Valentine’s Day this year but I’m hoping to
leave the hubby and kids a few treats. Last year I made them heart
brownie sandwiches which they loved so maybe that might be
something I’ll leave behind. I follow you everywhere and Scharffen
    Berger 🙂

  3. I’m not sure what I’ll make for Valentine’s Day yet. Maybe
    my family’s favorite brownies. 🙂

      1. They are moist and gooey. Just a simple recipe made with organic butter and chocolate chunks. But sometimes the simple things are the most delicious! 🙂

        1. Catherine: I agree, for me I love my treats & all my food to be simple & made with the best ingredients. High quality food should speak for itself & not need to much enhancement at all. I bet your brownies are fabulous!

  4. We have a recipe that we love for a chocolate cheesecake
that is one of our favorites so we will be making this. A new
reader de-cloaking from Houston. Jane/Boschka on Tasty
    Kitchen

  5. What an awesome giveaway. Thanks for holding this! I’m planning to make heart-shaped eclairs for my darling boyfriend on V-day. Sadly i may have to start serving jury duty that day, so I guess I’ll have to make in advance.

  6. I love making chocolate waffles for Valentine’s Day breakfast. It’s such a special treat to enjoy warm chocolate waffles with fresh strawberries and whipped cream.

  7. For Valentine’s Day I make a dinner that’s one of my husband’s favorites. It doesn’t have to be fancy: he just likes the fact that I do it for HIM. 🙂

Thanks for the chance to win!

  8. I have no idea what treats I’ll be making for Valentine’s Day…definitely something chocolaty if I win this giveaway. 🙂 Your no-bake chocolate peanut butter cookies sound delish! I’ll probably make some type of cupcakes because I have some cute heart cupcake liners.

  9. I’m planning on making my husband’s favorite dessert for Valentine’s – lemon meringue pie. For me, though, chocolate is always a winner 🙂

    1. Cellabella: Perhaps you could garnish that gorgeous Lemon Meringue Pie with some melted chocolate ribbons or chocolate shavings, hmmmm…..Lucky hubs you have.

  10. Haven’t quite decided on the type of cake but when my parents moved out of my childhood home I found a heart shaped pan and brought it back to DC with me. Definitely going to use it for V-day!

    1. Wendy: Nutella brownies!! Wish I was your Valentine 🙂 Are they gonna be shaped like hearts or just eaten out of the pan while hot?? That’s probably what I would end up doing 😉

  11. For my husband, I’ll either be making steaks or chicken piccata and for my co-workers, I’ll be making either peppermint or caramel brownies.

    1. Amanda: Both of those dinner ideas sound awesome. I love a good piccata sauce with all that butter and the salty capers. The brownies sound great too – your co-workers will be so touched.

  12. My husband wants bread pudding. We have a local restaurant that makes the best bread pudding we have ever tasted and he is totally addicted…lol. I’m not sure I can compare, but I’m going to try.

    1. Kari: I love bread pudding too. I bet you can make a wonderful one as long as you have great ingredients. How lucky is your hubs that you are gonna try!!

  13. I am following @ScharffenBerger on Twitter…(I had to copy that. There was no way I could retype that without messing it up…lol)

  14. Valentines day isn’t even on my radar yet! Chocolate will definitely be involved and likely some delicious beef for my husband. His gift is always a meal he loves, that way I enjoy it along with him.

  15. Maybe it’s time to graduate from Hershey’s unsweetened
cocoa, huh… Anyway – I’m making Chocolate Orange Truffles for
Valentine’s Day – post to follow as it gets closer!

    1. Courtney: Sometimes I use Hershey’s unsweetened cocoa powder too. The Scharffen Berger has a much richer & vibrant flavor though. Good to have both around to satisfy all moods 🙂

  16. I am going to make brownies and cut them out with heart shaped coookie cutters then frost with cream cheese frosting — nothing fancy but the kids love them.

  17. It was so great to hear your voice yesterday! Chocolate is my favorite and the best chocolate i have ever tasted was in a cake you made for me at a birthday party for Melia. Lots of layers of it! I think you used Scharffen Berger even back then. Your cakes are the best I have ever had!

    1. Andrea: I know, I am so happy we had a few minutes of chat time yesterday. Always love talking to you & hope you guys visit again this Spring. I probably did use Scharffen Berger in that cake i made for you way before this blog ever came to be. The taste for the good stuff has been around for a long time. Talk soon, OK?? xo

  18. Thanks for hosting this great giveaway, Marla! I’ll
probably be making some chocolate caramel candy to give to my
husband, along with a little love note. We’ll see. Valentine’s Day
will come directly after a dinner party the previous weekend,
though, so I won’t be cooking or baking much. However, if I win
this I can envision making some droolworthy chocolate ganache…
    and eating the rest. Yum!

  19. I make “love” muffins. They are muffins with notes of
“love” tucked inside 🙂 I’ve even purchased Wilton’s toppers that
were cute little hearts on a pick and then wrote a note of “love”
    on the heart!

  20. I am planning to make goodie baskets for some friends and
family. I usually make chocolate dipped shortbread, butter cookies,
chocolate dipped pretzels, chocolate lollipops and caramel filled
chocolates. For my husband I am planning to make a nice steak with
loaded baked potatoes and roasted squash. Wow! I just realized I
have a lot to do 🙂

    1. Janet: Sounds like you have some fun work ahead of you in the kitchen. Those gift baskets you have planned will be delicious! Have fun 🙂

  21. I found these great heart shaped spring form pans and am
planning to make my sons and hubby individual cheescakes for
dessert along with some heart shaped cookies. Can’t have enough
    sweets for my 3 men!

  22. For Valentine’s Day, I am thinking about making some
homemade caramel chocolate almond turtles- mmmm, maybe with a touch
    of sea salt!

  23. And I’ve been looking for treat inspiration & your
banana “cake” with almonds sounds soooooo yummy & healthy.
I’d say it’s for V-day but I want to make it today!! Maybe as a
gift? The almonds on top are soooooo pretty!

  24. Yumm Scharffen-Berger!!
My boyfriend and I always cook a nice meal together on Valentine’s Day, so we’ll probably do that again. I have to start thinking of some good dishes to make!

    1. Jessie: Chicken pot pie from scratch – nothing like it. Such a treat. I need to do that some time soon. My kids would love it, so would I!

  25. My V-day treat will be something chocolate. I haven’t decided yet (the options are limitless!) but look forward to it!

  26. Not sure yet exactly what treats I’ll be making but most definately something with chocolate!! Maybe a cheesecake of some sort!

  27. My favorite way to consume chocolate is still rich, classic hot chocolate. It can’t be beat…particularly tonight when my husband and I go sledding after work!

    1. Maureen: Sledding after work – how fun is that! WIth the bonus of hot chocolate when you are all cozied up & done with a long day. Love that! Have fun out there 🙂

    1. Amelia: Those M&M cookie cups are so cute over at “Oh My Sugar High” blog! They are so colorful, festive & fun. I say you do the cupcakes & the cookie cups 😉

  28. Scharffenberger is the only chocolate I’ll allow in my house! I love it’s deep dark intense flavor. that’s how you know you’re getting the good stuff 😛

    1. Joanne: I know, once you get a taste for the best stuff out there, no turning back my friend. I love the unsweetened SB ’cause then I can get loads of chocolate flavor with just a hint of sweetness from stevia that I add in. I’m crazy like that.

  29. Wow, I haven’t thought that far ahead! Next week I am trying out a new chocolate cake with coconut filling recipe for my husband’s birthday, and that’s all I have been thinking about! I hope it turns out.

  30. I like making my girls sugar cookies with raspberry jam filling, and pipe XXX and OOO as well as little notes on top. They especially like getting one of these in their lunch – even if its past Valentine’s Day and they’re eating “leftover” cookies

    1. Veronica: Is there a such thing as “leftover cookies??!!” How cute that you are gonna pipe the cookies for your girls with XO’s. Always a super treat to get that kind of goodie in the lunch box 🙂

  31. Valentine’s Day will probably be the traditional glass of wine and dark chocolate truffles (of my own concoction) while writing essays for class.

    1. Amber: Love that combo. Sounds like studying will be a lot more fun with wine & homemade truffles. Do you add any interesting ingredients to your truffles?

    1. Erin: I am with you, I eat stuffed french toast everyday for breakfast & it rocks my world. I occasionally stuff it with chocolate & it is blissful. I think it’s a great idea 🙂

  32. We always make chocolate pudding for valentines day. It was what I made on our first valentines together and my husband thought I was magical because he had never had homemade chocolate pudding until that night. He loved the warm pudding with the freshly whipped cream. Maybe that’s why he married me 🙂

    1. Michelle: That is such a sweet story. Funny, I just bought some arrowroot powder tonight to make some homemade chocolate pudding. I want to see how it holds up compared to cornstarch. Thanks for stopping by.

  33. Marla, I can use this delicious Scharffen Berger Chocolate since I’m make chocolate pots de creme for our Vday Dinner! 🙂
following scharffen Berger on Twiiter & Facebook! Ofcourse I follow you everywhere! luv ya lots! 🙂

  34. I’ll be making a giant meal for the whole hall I live on including chocolate cupcakes with flaming strawberries and attempting to make bugolgi

  35. i’m gonna make chocolate cupcakes with mascarpone pistachio frosting! i just want to sort of invent a recipe of mascarpone pistachio filling and frosting and since the boy in question, which i’m hoping to celebrate valentine’s w, loves pistachios, seems like a good time to try!

  36. i plan on attempting my 1st ever cake pops! v-day themed of course with a healthified twist…well as much as baked goods can be 😉 aaand if i’m feeling extra adventurous, i also plan on doing some ice cream sandwiches…yummm

  37. I’m going to make little tiny-heart shaped sandwich cookies, with a very flaky dough. I make them every year for family and friends, and they are several people’s favorite cookie!

  38. I’ve got to throw my name in the hat for this giveaway! Love chocolate, and it’s so hard to pick out my fav, but my next planned chocolate treat will be in pie form.

  39. OOH Marla~

    GORGEOUS photos!!!

    I love, love LOVE chocolate…..

I LOVE Scharffen Berger and I’m a BIG fan on twitter and facebook.

I’m going to bake some “Neiman Marcus Millionaire Cookies” very soon…..
You know, the chocolate chip cookies made with espresso and oat flour YUM!!!

    Come visit me!
    Lisa
    xo

    1. Lisa: “Neiman Marcus Millionaire Cookies??” Where have I been all these years, never have tried them! Do you have the recipe link for us? The oat flour must make for a great crumb texture & added flavor too. Thanks for your sweet comments 🙂

  40. Last year I made a flourless chocolate cake. This year I haven’t thought about it much, but I know my husband WILL want chocolate. It’s his favorite thing. 🙂 Maybe some brownies, maybe some chocolate truffles, we’ll see!

    1. Jessica: Sounds like you have some great Valentine’s Day treats planned. Lucky you that the hubs loves chocolate too – some folks are commenting that their significant others don’t go for chocolate. In our house the darker the better! Makes things easy 🙂

  41. Unfortunately my boyfriend is not a very big chocolate fan… but I’m thinking of making peanut butter brownies and of course a wonderful meal! In previous years, I made chocolate truffles or chocolate cakes for Valentine’s Day!

  42. I am planning on making chocolate treats for/with my 5 year old twins for their preschool and for us too. 🙂

  43. I love chocolate and my husband loves vanilla…. usually a Valentine’s treat incorporates both (or I make 2 desserts).

  44. I’m having a “Singles Dinner Party” and making fortune cookies with love fortunes in them for everyone, and also a White Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake for dessert 🙂

  45. I plan on making a decandent chocolate Flan. (Still debating whether I want to flavor the flan with Raspberry Liquer (Framboise),Orange Liquer (Contreiu) or Coconut (Malibu)….but, a chocolate flan is definitely on the menu…

  46. Also, I am now following you and SB on Twitter. I liked both you and SB on FB, i posted my comment, I joined the email subscription and I added Family Fresh Cooking to my blog roll. HOPE I win!!!!! : )

  47. For Valentine’s day, I am planning on making and enjoying red velvet cupcakes with a dark chocolate frosting 🙂

  48. One of my current favorite treats is cocoa nib cookies. I
substitute cocoa nibs for chocolate chips, with a slight adjustment
    to the sugar proportions. MMM

    1. Chocophilenyc: That is a really fun way to make chocolate chip cookies. I gotta try that sometime soon. Love the flavor & crunch of toasted cacao nibs.

    1. Grace: I know it is hard not to eat more of the chocolate then actually bake with it. I have been melting it & drizzling it over my pancakes & greek yogurt. Kinda good, well great.

  49. I’ll be making my Chocolaty Coconut Mini Tortes recipe. They are made with canola oil vs. butter, so they’re a lot lower in the “bad” fat than a typical torte. http://mealmakeovermoms.com/recipes/desserts/chocolaty-coconut-mini-tortes/
I’ll also be trying some new recipes (TBD) as I plan a chocolate show for my weekly radio podcast, Cooking with the Moms. Thanks for the giveaway!! I’ll look at the comments on your post for some inspiration ….

  50. For V-day I’m planning on making red velvet cupcakes.
Whether or not I’m actually going to share them with my Valentine
    is still under consideration.

  51. I don’t have special plans with a special someone, but what
I usually do is bake some Valentines goodies for all my friends.
This year I’m thinking of making heart shaped sugar cookies dipped
in chocolate and chocolate cookies dipped in white chocolate. I’ll
be decorating these cookies with red and pink sugar and heart
    shaped sprinkles 🙂

  52. oh my, oh my, oh my.
I’m having a difficult time telling where I should start with all of these links. Salted caramel chocolate cupcakes? Chocolate crepes?
I’ve always wanted to make a perfect layer chocolate cake for my hub. We’ve tried so many recipes but they always fall short of that perfect one.

  53. This year, I’ve planned on making chocolate pot de creme for my wife and three kids; a first for me. Got a recipe from a friend living in France, which she obtained from her little old lady neighbor.

I plan on using the best, darkest chocolate I can get my hands on.

  54. For Valentines Day I will make my husband’s favorite treat : chocolate sorbet. I always use Scharffen Berger, so would love to win this!
