Recently I attended the Banff Mountain Film and Book Festival. This was my first time to Alberta, Canada & it certainly won’t be my last! I’ve been wanting to explore this area for many years now. The land of beautiful mountains, snowy peaks, cool culture and super fun people. It’s sort of like Telluride’s Canadian cousin. That feeling had me comfortable as soon as I stepped into this alpine paradise. My first stop on my journey was the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. This grand dame hotel has always been on the top of my hot list. When I was invited to stay there I did a happy dance, and continued to the whole time I was there!
Nestled in soaring mountain peaks, the majestic Victoria Glacier and a glistening emerald lake, the iconic Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise hotel is located in Alberta’s Banff National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is recognized globally for progressive environmental stewardship and responsible tourism.
This luxury lake resort brings you back to the olden, golden days of fine luxe hotel experiences. I felt like a princess in every way. My one bedroom suite was perched over the lake. I was greeted with homemade cookies, m&m’s, a gorgeous cheese platter and Prosecco! Heavenly. What more could a girl want?!
From my windows, there was powdery snow everywhere the eye could see. It was a true winter wonderland!
I was lucky to join Fairmont’s expert outdoor guide Micheal Vincent on a hike around the lake.
We trekked through fluffy powder and made our way up to a gorgeous birds eye view of the hotel, lake & surrounding mountains. It felt so good to be among the trees, breathing in the cool dry air.
Micheal told me about the history of the area, wildlife preservation and local skiing. The Lake Louise Ski Resort is a short 5 minute ride from the hotel. I hear the snow is epic there. I’m planning a trip back for the skiing for sure!
The hotel is the perfect venue for weddings and all kinds of celebrations! It’s super elegant, but friendly vibe would be striking & memorable for any special event. The hotel restaurants were phenomenal. I got to experience classic fondue at the Walliser Stube (omg, amazing!) & the well appointed breakfast buffet in the mornings. There’s something for everyone when it comes to food.
I was obsessed with all the breakfast pastries!
You can see all the resort dining options here.
This is a year round resort with varied activities to take advantage of. Alpinists can take full advantage of recreational activities all year round. Activities including downhill skiing and snowboarding, cross-country skiing, ice skating, snowshoeing, snowmobiling and horse drawn sleigh rides in the winter; and hiking, canoeing, horseback riding, fishing, mountain biking and river rafting in the summer. A plethora of fun!! My kids would love this place & I will definitely bring them some day soon!
Please reach out to the kind staff at the Chateau Lake Louise with any travel planning questions & tell them I sent you!
You can follow them on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook too!
What a magnificent place! Simply stunning.

Can it get any more beautiful?!
Wish I would have known – would have met you for lunch – it’s been a whole lifetime ago, no? Love our Alberta mountains! So glad you made it. Love the Banff Centre, too!
