I was looking for an unusual fruit to make a fantastic margarita with…so I went on a hunt. Cinco de Mayo is almost here! Like in a few days. We all have margaritas on our minds & I’ve got quite a few recipes you will love here on MM blog, including these Kiwano Margaritas. Have you ever tried this melon? Now is the time! A new grocery store opened here in town. Which is epic, because the town of Telluride is teeny, itty, bitty tiny. The few hundred of us who live here full time are celebrating this grand opening. Really. Skiing gigantic mountains & new grocery  stores thrill us to no end. I took my son to the store on the day I thought was the grand opening. Little did I know it had opened 3 weeks prior. Clueless. Again, we live in a town with one main street & the store is on that street. We don’t carry “unusual” fruit & veg here. It’s a tough town for fresh produce, we can’t sell enough of it. What that means is that the store owners need to be careful with orders. Less people = less turnover. I saw these melons & I freaked on the peculiarity of them. Honestly I thought they were dragonfruit, they were marked as dragonfruit. When I cut them opened I saw green rather than pink. Thankfully I was totally into the flavor of these Kiwanos. They are combo cucumber meets melon, they are a bright, light fruit. I felt like they needed some lime to zest them up a bit. Tequila didn’t hurt either. Give these a whirl if you can find these fun fruits. So worth it! You will be the talk of your town. xo [amd-zlrecipe-recipe:526] Margarita Recipe Links

Omg, I see that fruit all the time in the grocery store and obviously too scared to buy it. Love that you opened it up for me to see what it looks like on the inside!! I must try to make this margarita now 🙂
Isn’t it funny how certain fruits & veg are completely mysterious until we dare to try them?! I’m so happy I was bold enough for these beauties 😉
What a nice looking drink! I will have to try to track down some Kiwani melons!

Thanks Rosa! Wondering if you can track them down in Switzerland?
Love your adventurous spirit! I thought maybe they were a kiwi + mango just based on the name but sounds like not quite based on taste. I would love to try this! Pinned!
