As many of you might already know I am completely OBSESSED with my dogs Moose and Bo. So much so that my day revolves around making their day really, really fun. It’s that simple. They love me and I love them. If you have a pet, cat, dog, etc. then you might also feel this way. Moose and Bo have their own Instagram page @MooseandBoTelluride where I share their adventures so you guys can watch their lives unfold. There’s a whole lot of napping, chasing things and begging for food. Speaking of food I only give them the highest quality dog foods and they are beyond obsessed with Greenies for occasional treats.
Every day I get asked what breed they are. That’s a tough question to answer as I’m not really sure. They came from Second Chance Humane Society in Ridgway, Colorado. They both have a lot of coonhound in them. Bo bays a whole lot and Moose tries to. I refer to them as the southern hounds living the high life in Telluride, CO.
I got the Moose four years ago and Bo three. If you ask me how old they are I say they are the same age. I figured both having the same birthday would make things uncomplicated, so I declared their b’days to be November 15th. That makes Moose and Bo 5 years and some change. They still act like total puppies and I want to keep it that way. They are filled with energy I can’t even imagine having anything less. I thank them everyday for helping me to enjoy the outdoors and making me exercise even when I’m not in the mood to.
I am always blown away by their capability to jump up on surfaces four feet high and down even further. They can run faster than the wind. They are always enthusiastic and always hungry like me. Their distinct personalities are awesome. Bo always needs to be by my side and sleeps with me at night. Moose prefers his personal space but is ALWAYS up for a belly rub. Moose loves to spend his days on my daughters bed. Bo always has his head in my lap. Until it’s time to go outside.
My hounds wear Sportdog collars whenever we go outside. Since they are hounds they track everything with their nose. As much as they want to stay near me they love to follow any scent they find interesting. The collars allow me to get their attention with a remote I wear around my neck. I send them a beep or vibration and they come running back. It’s the most useful device and I will not take them out without it. Having the Sportdog collars allows me to let them run off leash in wide open areas. These boy need to run daily. Without that they are so mischievous around the house.
Bo has a single coat of fur and Moose a double coat. That means Bo dog gets super cold outside and shakes when he’s cold. To help prevent that he loves to wear his Ruffwear Powderhound jacket. It’s cozy and super handsome on him.
When I adopted Moose and Bo I promised to love them unconditionally and to run them daily. All breeds need different levels of exercise and these boys need amazing amounts. When they get back home they are total mush balls. They weren’t born in the same litter and certainly did not have the same doggy parents. But when you are with them you would never know that. These hounds are true brothers. Am I obsessed with my dogs? You betcha!
