Starbucks style coffee frappuccino

We all love icy cold treats and drinks in the Summer time. Heck, I love them all year round. Sometimes we do not have the time or inclination to get to our favorite Starbucks or other coffee shops. Often we want our creamy frozen drink in the comfort of our own home. These days there are many versions of the creamy & sweet Frappuccino or Ice Blended drinks. I posted this drink last winter and it was time to reveal it again, this time with video.

Starbucks Frappuccino type recipe

With minimal ingredients and hardly any time you can make a super frozen drink that resembles coffee shop shakes. You guys have been asking for some video here on MarlaMeridith.com so here goes:

The other day I had the wonderful opportunity to meet Averie from the raw food vegan blog Love Veggies and Yoga. We met online last winter and it was thrilling to finally meet my friend for real! The Nugget was with me and Averie brought her adorable daughter along too.

Girlfriends in front of fountain in Southern California.

While we chatted away the kids munched on carrots, apples & whole wheat pretzels. They shared grub & we could have kept the conversation going for days.

Do you love Starbuck’s Frappuccino’s? if so have you ever made one at home?

Frappuccino Style Coffee Shake

Makes one serving

NOTES:

  • Your can make this shake at parties with similar ratios in a bigger blender.
  • You can also do a Chocolate or Mocha version. For a Frozen Hot Chocolate swap in a heaping tablespoon of unsweetened cocoa powder for the coffee. For a Frozen Mocha use a tablespoon each of coffee & unsweetened cocoa powder for a Frozen Mocha.
  • Slowly add sweetener until your shake is sweetened to taste.
  • No instant coffee? No worries, you can use 4-6 ounces of fresh brewed coffee or espresso instead of water instead.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 heaping tablespoon instant Coffee or Espresso
  • 4 ounces Ice Cold Water
  • 8-10 ounces crushed Ice
  • 1-2 ounces any Milk (dairy, coconut, goat, almond, soy)
  • Stevia powder or Vanilla Stevia Drops to taste (or any natural sweetener you desire)

METHOD

Put all ingredients in blender and blend for about 30-45 seconds until your shake is well combined.

    OPTIONAL

    • Top your coffee shake with chocolate shavings, cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice, coconut flake, nuts, cocoa flavor, instant coffee or anything you like.

Disclaimer: I frequent Starbucks & love their drinks. I came up with this recipe a while back. This is my own version of the Frappuccino, similar but not the same as Starbucks. “Frappuccino” is a registered trademarked name that belongs to Starbucks.

    1. I’ve been going to coffee shops way to often lately! Starbucks has espresso frappuccinos over here, which I think is exciting. I’d love to make my own with stevia. I’m bookmarking this!

    2. Hi Beautiful!!! Thanks for the great pics of our day and you saw my post about it…all those clothes you gave us…omg thank you again, you are amazing!!!!!!!!!

Love iced coffees…espi this time of year, it’s finally HOT here!

Anyway please, keep me posted on get-togethers, meetings, etc and any other useful info and I will do the same 🙂 And let’s pencil something in soon to do it again!!
      xoxo

    3. Marla! I love that! I am now a lover of Stevia. I am packing for a trip and have my stevia drops in my purse. I will try out your blended coffee (caffinated of course). A delicious treat to keep me buzzed through the flight! Your blog is great and you are amazing. Keep up the good work!

    4. The coffee looks so great! Every time I see a pic of iced coffee I just want it, can’t explain it….yummy. I’ve never had one though, might give this one a go.

I went and voted for your recipe! In fact I made chicken with coconut after your recipe – can’t eat oats – but had to chuck them all in the freezer before I even tasted…I just found your site via Love Veggies and Yoga, thanks for this great place, I love it!

    5. Yes, I make this all the time! I use decaf espresso powder so my kids can drink it too – one of their favorite frosty treats! We use vanilla soymilk and thus don’t even need additional sweetener – that’s sweet enough.

    6. This looks to be right up my alley, Marla — coffee for dessert!! — and I can’t wait to try this fab recipe. I’ve never become a Starbucks addict since there are none near me, but I do love my coffee and am absurdly fussy about it. Have you tried this with freshly (or leftover) brewed espresso or coffee? Any tips?

      1. Barbara, yes you can absolutely make this shake & it tastes awesome with a fresh brewed coffee or espresso. Instead of the 4 ounces of water, use a fresh brew. It’s that easy!

    7. Marla – Your video is adorable! I love blended coffee concoctions too! I sometimes put vanilla protein in it, or drop a whole hazelnut in there for real hazelnut flavor.
I keep saying I’m going to put video up on my blog but I always chicken out and say “Bad hair day, maybe tomorrow!”

      Thanks for sharing!

      Georgie

    8. Love the iced coffee shake and your video is great! This might be the perfect recipe to persuade me to get the smoothie machine out of the pantry.

    9. Marla, you will put Starbucks out of business. So easy, and it looks so much better and healthier than those Frapuccinos!
So cool that you met Averie…isn’t she in San Diego, though?

    10. Marla…at the foodessa household…Hubby desires his Italian style frappée every other weekend…and it gets spirited with his choice of liqour. I also brew a pot of espresso and make cubes out of them…hence, when in the mood we take them out of the freezer ready to go and no need for regular ice cubes;o)

Glad to see that you are enjoying your summer in Marla style ;o)

Ciao for now and flavourful wishes,
      Claudia

    11. I love a good frappuccino as well but sometimes you don’t want to run to the store. These look so refreshing! I want to sit on a beach chair and sip one!

    12. About to head into the kitchen to make myself a salad for dinner, 2 hours late and I’m starving, lol. This drink is the PERFECT treat for the end of my day! Hoping I can make it before the sun goes down since it looks to be the type of drink that would taste best in a pretty bright kitchen like yours. Love the video! It proves how easy things are to make when we get to watch you. Stop typing, start blending…. bye!

      1. Kelly, it tastes even better outside in the backyard. It is hard to stop typing to do other things. Good thing I am always onto the next meal, it forces me to get up! If you go caffeinated on this coffee drink make sure it isn’t too late at night.

    13. Although it is still winter this looks delicious. It makes
me SO mad that Stevia is still an illegal substance here in Europe
      🙁

    14. I’m a fairly new coffee drinker. But instant coffee? Double Yuck. Is there a specific brand you like for this drink? I love fraps.. but the price is outragious and so many calories!

      thanks for the video!
