If there’s a singular on mountain ski restaurant I consistently recommend (and I’ve been to many!) it’s the unforgettable Chez Vrony in Zermatt, Switzerland. With epic views of the Matterhorn, crazy delicious food and plenty of drinks for thirsty skiers…book a trip. Now!
The social scene is tres chic with colorful international flair. It’s the place to be seen and I recommend you plan on taking a very long lunch!! Chez Vrony is the kind of place you must not rush. It’s meant to be savored in every possible way!
Family owned for over 100 years, Chez Vrony was a working alpine farm before becoming the chicest place to wine and dine in the Swiss high alps. Thankfully I had the inside scoop to discover this gem from the concierge at the Hotel Matthiol, where I was staying.
Located at 6889 feet (2100 meters) the restaurant has mind boggling views of one of the most famous peaks on earth! Prior to becoming one of the chicest ski resorts in the world Zermatt was a remote mountain farming village.
The owners Vrony and her husband Max greet you with huge, bright, genuine smiles.
The hospitality throughout the restaurant, clearly shows that the staff wants to be there. Who wouldn’t want views of the Matterhorn all day, everyday!
The buzz at this place is consistent high energy but chill all at the same time.
Varied fresh flowers on the tables add to the romantic experience. All of the rustic, natural food is super fresh and authentically Swiss with other european influences. Locally produced organic ingredients prevail. Cheese and meats are sourced from animals nourished on local alpine grasses. Meats are dry cured on the premises and sausage is homemade.
I tried many dishes as I was there 5 out of my seven days for lunch! The Vrony Salad, Rosti, Raclette and homemade sausage were stand outs. Always accompanied with a glass of house white wine. To finish I enjoyed the Cafe Vrony (whisky, pear schnapps) or the Cafe Leni (espresso, amaretto) both piled high with whipped cream! Looks great right?!
On the bright and sunny bluebird days guests lounge & dine outdoors. The decks are huge and plentiful! Reservations are always recommended.
Inside the converted farmhouse are many quaint rooms, each decorated in their own funky, quirky, elegant style…dining inside is a great option too.
I LOVE all the eclectic finishes…
It’s best to ski to Chez Vrony, but if that’s not an option Plan B is to hike over. It’s a workout either way!
Do arrive hungry and thirsty. You don’y want to miss any of the delicious fun to be had!
