Happy Friday! Can you believe another busy week has flown by? Hopefully you had a great one & hopefully you have some fun weekend plans in the works…we sure do! This Orange Maple Old-Fashioned cocktail is perfect for ladies & gents.
It has all the thrills of whiskey with a twist of citrus, a splash of orange bitters and some dark amber maple syrup. It is even the cocktail of choice on the popular series Mad Men.
Your welcome….
Usually, I post cocktails that can be made virgin or kiddo friendly. In this case that is not the case. This drink is mostly whiskey with littles citrus splashes for accents. This is a vintage cocktail that dates back to the 1800’s. Messing with it too much would be pointless.
That would be another drink.
You gotta love whiskey to love this cocktail. You do? OK….then great. You have a new best friend.
The Gouda Life & Kitchen Riffs both describe this cocktail perfectly. For those who don’t like whiskey over ice, this takes the profound flavor down a notch, without losing the integrity of the whiskey. As the ice melts the flavors combine and simmer down the heat a little bit.
For folks who want a full-bodied whiskey kick you won’t lose a thing.
This is a drink you drink slowly and mindfully. Not one you slam in seconds. This is comfort and sophistication. No bells and whistles. After all, it’s old-fashioned, a classic.
I love that old fashioned’s are served in short “Old Fashioned” glasses. No tall stems to get in your way. Not too easy to tip over. The glass has some weight, to give a warm hug to the drink inside.
A small squat glass is simply another indicator that this is meant to be savored ~ enjoyed ~ sip. by. sip.
Hopefully, you have a wonderful weekend. Enjoy!

This cocktail sounds dangerously delicious!
You make this drink look amazing! And it probably is! The flavors..orange with the maple and Jack. This definitely isn’t a white wine spritzer, now is it. Go bold or go home 🙂
Ha! Averie, you crack me up. You are correct ~ certainly not a wine cooler 😉
Gorgeous clicks and a wonderful cocktail!
Cheers,
Rosa
I’ve never had an old fashioned… weird! But this looks awesome, I definitely need to try!
I definitely need it today.
Ah, the Old-fashioned; a Northern Wisconsin must! And now I know what to do with those jugs of local maple syrup sitting on top of my kitchen counter. Good thing I happened to buy orange bitters yesterday (what a coincidence!). Looking forward to trying this version out.
This sounds so good! What a great combo of flavours for a cocktail!
Gorgeous! Now that’s a way to start the weekend 🙂
Why thank you Anna! 🙂
Fabulous photos, Marla! I love the twist you put on this tasty cocktail, too. I can always tell when my husband has started watching Mad Men again… he drinks these more often! 🙂
It’s Friday night so you know I definitely need one of these stat!
Orange maple, Yum! This sounds really great 🙂
Ooh I want one of these now! And I want to come to Telluride and get some photography lessons from you. Your photos are gor-GEOUS
I started liking whiskey when someone handed me an old fashioned. Good stuff! Even made a bundt cake with the flavors.
