Tipsy Orange Julius Shakes | Make 'em with or without the booze! recipe on MarlaMeridith.com #vegan

Lots of folks grew sipping on famous Orange Julius Shakes. Not really sure we had ’em on Long Island. I know we don’t have ’em here in Telluride.

So whether or not this fine, sweet drink is in your neck of the woods….now it can be. And in case you’re in the mood ~ you can make it tipsy (or not).

Say hello to the Tipsy Orange Julius Shakes ya’ll.

All you need is a cowboy boot, some orange juice and pillows ofΒ whipped cream.

Oh. You also need some rum. Or vodka will do too.

What is an Orange Julius? Simply put it is orange juice with some kinda milk. Add ice (and in this case rum) to get a slick, frothy texture.

This drink tastes like an orange creamsicle and it is super tasty on a hot ‘n steamy day.

The Orange Julius was named the official drink of the 1964 World’s Fair!

I add homemade whipped cream to just about everything these days.

You can make this recipe with Coconut Vegan Whipped Cream or Dairy.

Living at high altitude I can consume way more calories then at sea level. Our hearts beat faster (calorie burner) and I exercise all the time in the crisp mountain air (calorie burner.)

This all makes it so we can enjoy waaaay more whipped cream….. Oh JOY!

In shakes, hot chocolate, Β parfaits, cocktails….I enjoy it by the spoonful. Love it on pancakes too.

Whipped cream is really gooooood in cocktails. Have you tried my Irish Coffee Shooters yet? Well you need to asap. This weekend would be a wonderful time to do that.

If you wanna go alcohol free you can do that too! My kids love these shakes…..without the booze.

Grab a spot in the shade, swing on a hammock and sip away!

  1. Last week I made some Boozy Iced Coffee. And your shakes are gorgeous! I have an orange pushup smoothie that I make and love it….would love your version even more. GORGEOUS! food styling and pics! The cowboy boot mugs are so perfect for you!

  2. These are so pretty Marla! Nothing like serving beautiful drinks to top off a great summer BBQ. I’d have to wait until baby is born to try the “tipsy” version though. πŸ˜€

  3. Orange Julius added egg whites to their drinks to make them foamy. This sounds more like a creamsicle or milkshake with heavy whipping cream or coconut milk.

My fav was the orange pineapple. I can still get the plain old “just orange juice” Orange Julius at the Dairy Queen/Orange Julius kiosk at the mall, but they don’t have pineapple.

    1. Stephanie ~ thanks for that info. I had no idea. Well without the egg whites ~ vegans can keep ’em vegan. The orange pineapple sounds awesome!

    1. Nessa, I bought these years ago a a little pie shop in Julian CA. Google search ’em though. I know other readers have found ’em. πŸ™‚

  4. I love, love, loved going to the mall with my dad when I was a kid and getting an orange julius to drink! I’ve discovered that OJ combined with egg white powder in a blender makes a pretty good julius, but seeing as this is Friday and all, I’m thinking your adult version sounds even better!

  5. I was going to say the same thing about the egg whites! Orange julius is made out of orange juice, egg white (the stores now use eggwhite powder that has a bit of vanilla in it) and simple syrup. It’s what makes them thick and a little foamy. These look all creamy and dreamy and delicious, but definitely are not Julius’s
