Vegan Skinny Hot Cocoa requires only 4 things…almond milk, cocoa powder, H2O & your favorite sweetener. Why am I posting something soooooo simple? So you can avoid those little packages of processed cocoa powders. Drink up!
Nothing like a steamy cup of hot cocoa when you roll out of bed. Sometimes I find it crazy fun to post the most simple of recipes. But then I realize that these are my go-to daily creations and they need to be blogged.
I love the taste of good chocolate. Packaged hot cocoa doesn’t do it for me…it’s too sweet & I can hardly taste the cocoa.
Cocoa powder is super fun to shoot with a macro lens. See…
You might need to experiment with unsweetened cocoa powders to find the one you like the most. I usually reach for Trader Joe’s, Scharffen Berger, Ghiradelli and Hershey’s. I like fancy ones too.
If you want chocolate milk…simply add some ice. I told you this couldn’t be easier and more delicious.

Love a warm cup of hot cocoa!! Thanks for sharing this “skinny” version! 🙂
Stunning and now I want some skinny hot cocoa 🙂
You have no idea how awesome this is! Since I was little my mom has always gotten up and made cups of hot chocolate instead of coffee. Hot chocolate is her coffee. No seriously, she drinks 2-3 cups with breakfast and I am following in the very same path since I am not a coffee drinker either! I love this recipe!
That is so fun Tieghan!! Gotta love any way to get lots of chocolate!
i just love hot chocolate too!!! I really like that this is the alternative to the packets!
Gorgeous photos, as usual, Marla! Can’t wait to try this skinny version!
Good homemade hot cocoa is so easy!
Sooooooo easy!
About 3-4 yrs ago I put a recipe on my site for Skinny Hot Cocoa but the pics were horrendous and so the post has sort of died. I love what you did here and a few times a week in the winter I make hot cocoa the same way: almond milk, cocoa, stevia. My fave warm treat! Pinned!
Funny you should say that Averie…..I have a reaaallllly old one al well. It’s still somewhere ~ but I can’t bear to look at it 😉
I crave coffee and tea every day in the summer, maybe it’s because we live in cooler regions but I need it. And skinny cocoa is now on my list…PINNING!!
Yay!! Happy to hear you have a new hot drink on your list 😉
totally craving this right now! Is it weird that this makes me ready for fall! Bring on the cool weather
Gaby…it is actually starting to feel like fall here….will be lots o hot cocoa!!!
Good hot chocolate is always a good choice. We’re having some hot days over here, but when it reins, we can have a cup 🙂
Sounds like a great plan Marta!
I’m right there with you, Marla! We need to get away from processed foods. I, too, enjoy unsweetened almond milk and the vanilla flavored is wonderful as well. Love your logic with posting simple recipes. I need to do a few of those! Thanks so much for sharing. Pinning!
This is so comforting, Marla! And you are right! The simplest recipes are definitely blog-worthy 🙂
Isn’t it funny how we forget about the simple ones?!
I’ve been drinking cocoa a lot this pregnancy!! Yum!
love this warm cup. perfect for fall – which is right around the corner!! makes me all want to be in the mood for it.
I cannot believe how close fall is…here in Telluride we are really feeling it creep in.
This would be perfect for a cool, rainy day! Yum!
Though a simple cup of coco can be a simple thing, but it does make a huge change in your mood for the rest of the day…
Oh girl, I am SO ready for fall! Saving this for then, since with it being regularly in the 100’s here in Austin I can’t even think about a hot cocoa, haha! This looks so luscious, though. Great recipe!
Oh I bet Georgia!! When I was there in June it was crazy steamy hot. Certainly hot cocoa was not on my mind either. Cool here in the mountains thank goodness 😉
Hot cocoa would definitely make my mornings better. LOVE this recipe!
Love this skinny version, so much better than packaged!
I don’t drink coffee, it’s just not my thing hot chocolate on the other hand, I adore. I sure could’ve used a cup of this today since it was so cold and rainy in Seattle.
SF is always cold even in summer and this is just perfect! <3
So simple and the kids will love it! Time to start stockpiling cocoa for this winter!
Man I love your mugs, boards and hot cocoa all year round. Can I move in? 😀
I, too, love those mugs. I’m collecting a lot of “make in a cup” recipes and my dainty 70s mugs are way too small. Will you share where you found them? Thanks so much.
Simple everyday recipes are the best ones 🙂 beautiful photos Marla!
