Hi there! A quickie post & recipe today. I’m a huge fan of oatmeal & this is a super tasty twist on that.
Nutty brown rice is great in sweets & savories. In this Brown Rice Breakfast Porridge I use traditional toppings but you can hit it with anything you wish. Get creative!
Growing up I was obsessed with Goldilocks & the 3 Bears.
The story was cool (and kind of creepy) but the best part was the porridge. I love the word porridge and I enjoy eating it & saying it as much as possible.
Porridge. PORRIDGE. PorRiDge.
You get my drift. (book  1948 ©Western Publishing Company,  peruse book here) I still LOVE Little Golden Books & read them to my kids often.
What makes the book so cool is this little red head gal broke into the home of bears & ate their food, sat in their chairs, slept in their beds…yada yada.
Something I might do too. If I was a character in a story book…
Back to this porridge. Brown rice is gluten free ~ so great for folks who are on GF diets. This rice was leftovers from my lunch.
I love dairy half & half, but coconut milk would be wonderful in this too.
Use any nuts. I sweeten with maple syrup or honey.
Hope you have a super relaxing, fun & tasty weekend!

I have never tried a recipe for Brown Rice Porridge. This sounds so healthy and delicious.
Give it a whirl when you can! Think you will enjoy it as much as other porridges 🙂
Ooooh that looks delicious! Never would have thought of using rice in porridge, but it sounds good!
Give I’ve it a whirl miss Baby June (love your name!!) bet you’ll be hooked 😉
This brown rice version sounds dreamy! Love the recipe!
Thanks so much Katrina!!
We’re big fans of oatmeal around here but I’ve never tried brown rice as a substitute to our favorite steel cut oats. Looks and sounds great. And loved Goldilocks, too!
Hopefully you can try it soon Jean ~ a great substitute!
Marla, this looks and sounds so good! So simple too, but I never thought of brown rice for a breakfast cereal/porridge. Makes sense too since people eat puffed rice cereal with milk for breakfast all the time. I have to tell you, when I read that part about the story and the use of the word “porridge” it made remember that the same thing happened to me when I was little and heard that story. It made me crave “porrrrridge” forever after that too! Hilarious! I bet there are many more like us out there! 😉
Oh and obviously, thanks for the link!!:)
You are so welcome. So happy I discovered your blog. So many great recipes over there 🙂
Love this warming breakfast, the berry topping is so pretty!
I loved Goldilocks & the 3 Bears too! And my grandma used to make me cream of wheat cereal. That’s probably about as close to ‘porridge’ as I ever got. I think I need to try yours! 🙂
Averie, you hit the nail on the head with that one. Cream of Wheat must have been the model for the 3 bears porridge!
Thanks for featuring my page for chia porridge at the bottom of the article; I love that idea of giving readers other similar recipes to look at 🙂
This brown rice porridge looks great, and I love how you have the coconut milk coming out of the berries in the pictures!
This is my kind of breakfast! Healthy, filling and so delicious!
I am pretty sure I had that exact book as a kid! I loved it.
I am also loving this porridge. What a lovely breakfast idea!
You make one gorgeous breakfast, Marla! Love the story too! Pinned!
Love brown rice and porridges! Of course, Goldilocks too!
So funny, I was just working on a rice pudding recipe and I have been having the hardest time figuring out how to get the right texture. It was so chewy! I never thought to cook it first, then add in the milk. So smart! Love the images from the golden book, so cool and retro!
Katie, I often have the same problems with brown rice. I find this technique works all the time without the stress of “how much liquid to add” Can’t wait to see your rice pudding recipe! Finding the images from that book made me so happy 🙂
Yum. It’s nice to switch up the hot oatmeal breakfast. The berries look wonderful!
This is great! Now that it is usually just Hubz and me at home, I almost always have leftovers when I make rice. This sounds delicious!
This sounds yummy and healthy. We’ll have to try this one out this coming weekend.
You have like the perfect food blog. The pictures of the food is so colorful. This is such a healthy breakfast dish! I like the Porridge and want to make this for my Dad and sister. Since it is starting to get chilly in the mornings-this would be a perfect dish!
Thanks for your sweet words Julie 🙂 Hopefully you can whip up this recipe soon!
I made this, this morning and called it ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’porridge. It is so very delicious! Put blueberries in it. THANK YOU.♡
So cute!! I love it!
