Who in the world would have thought that my favorite apple the Pink Lady had a super cool website? I am very impressed with their bright & cheery graphics, makes me love ’em more. Pink Lady apples are the perfect combo of sweet & tart. They don’t turn brown easily & they have a delightful crispy-crunch when you bite into them. Second up I like Granny Smith & Honeycrisp. No matter what your favorite apple you can make a great fresh homemade applesauce.
As summer draws to a close I thought it would be nice to combine cherries, which are a traditional summer fruit & crisp apples that kick off the fall season. Homemade applesauce beats the flavor of  jarred ones & is simple to prepare. It is great for baby food, kids lunchboxes, snacks & dessert. You might want to go without the tea if this is for your baby…..or simply use decaf. I love exposing my kids to all kinds of unique flavor combinations.
If you are having guests over or you are trying to sell you house throw a pot of homemade applesauce on the stove and your house will smell like a giant apple pie. It is a bit misleading as no buttery crust accompanies a pot of simmering applesauce, but I am sure you can make that happen if you desire.
This huge bowl of apples was on the table at the lodge we stay at in Telluride. Each time my kids passed it they would grab a big juicy apple to munch on. I used these and some Pink Lady’s that I got at the farmer’s market in town. Combine with fresh cherries (or frozen if cherries are out of season) and you have a very tasty homemade applesauce.
I added Earl Grey for a slight flavor twist, you can go with or without this. You could add any tea you desire. The tea can replace any other spices you might use. Layering this applesauce with thick greek yogurt makes this into a creamy & very pretty dessert or mini meal.

Homemade applesauce is seriously the best. It can even turn not the tastiest of apples into a delicious snack. At my parents house, they have this really old apple tree that produces all of these small, usually defected apples. But I’d collect a ton and make applesauce. Warm applesauce is absolutely the best.

I just came into a lot of Honey crisp apples that make the best applesauce- they’re so sweet I didn’t even need sugar. The tea is an interesting addition- I’ll try some in the next batch!

My favorite teas are Darjeeling and Earl Grey, although I love trying different blends. I also like simple unsweetened applesauces so the apple flavor shines through, and I also think apple butter is pretty good too!

What a unique flavor combination you created! Chai tea is definately my favorite along with homemade apple sauce. I actually just made a batch with some apples a gal at my work brought in. They were sweet and tart, kind of like a pink lady. I added in tons of cinnamon and a dab of honey and it was just perfect!

I just made this with Granny Smith and Pink lady apples. I didn’t have plain Earl Grey so used a lavender one. No sweetener. It’s absolutely delicious! I will be making this again and experimenting with different teas. Thanks for posting this! Next on my list is your pumpkin vanilla applesauce…
