Pretty Prints for Fall

I LOVE prints and patterns. Did you know I used to be a textile designer? A long time ago (way before my blogging days) my job was creating patterns for fabrics. My major in at Syracuse University was Advertising, but I chose Surface Pattern Design as my true love. I graduated in 4 years, but added another year just to polish up my design skills. After that I had great jobs in NYC designing fabrics for the best brands.

Clearly I’m smitten with patterns for both clothing and for the home. There are so many great designs out for Fall 2017 and these are a few of my favorites. Happy shopping…best to get on it before the inventory gets picked over.

Boozy Mango Milkshakes

Happy Thirsty Thursday everyone! I hope you’ve had a productive week. Now it’s time to set our sites on weekend fun. If you are craving a sweet treat with a boozy twist then this shake will definitely tempt your tastebuds.  Boozy Mango Milkshakes are decadent and refreshing on steamy summer days. Rum in drinks hasn’t been the trend lately, but here at MM we are going to bring it back in style. This shake tastes like the islands and is just as delish without the booze too!

Salmon en Papillote with Summer Vegetables

One of my favorite ways to cook fish is in parchment paper. Have you ever tried this method? It seals in all the juices and steams the fish as it cooks. This yields very tender fish that’s infused with the herbs, veggies and seasonings that you wrap it with. It’s also a very healthy way to prepare your food.

My Salmon en Papillote with Summer Vegetables makes the most of those plentiful summer veggies that we all love so much.

Wrapping the salmon in parchment paper makes for an elegant, yet very simple presentation. Just be careful when you open the packets, they are steamy!

Essential Sun Care Products for Sensitive Skin

The warm summer sun is a very beautiful thing. That said, the sun for me and for lots of other folks is something more to avoid than bask in. I seek shade when I can and sun protective clothing and creams are a must!

My skin is very sensitive to the suns rays, so keeping it as protected as I can is essential. This is equally important for alleviating sunburn, sun allergies and keeping it youthful. I know a lot of folks are in the same boat, so hopefully this list of products will be helpful to you.

Here’s some of my favorites:

Shirudo This antioxidant filled cream is what I use before heading out in the sun. It helps fight against PMLE (polymorphous light eruption: aka a bad sun rash) Apply in a very light layer. It’s also a very nice moisturizer.

Neutrogena I love their Spf 70 stick, for on the go face & lip reapplications. They also have a great line of sun protection.

Sunbum Not only is the branding adorable but I love this stuff! The creams soak right into skin and is dry in just minutes. This is important for sports. besides, no one like to feel greasy from sunscreen. Sun Bum smells like the islands (coconut) is water resistant, vegan & gluten free.

Supergoop Love their Lip & Cheek treat, with a rosy red tint. The sunscreens are great too!

San Soleil This clothing is a life saver! It looks super cool (heaps of colors and patterns) and has superb breath ability and built in SPF 50.

Elta MD I’m obsessed with their tinted spf 41 broad spectrum face cream. It sits amazing under makeup & is a great foundation to help conceal blemishes.

Wallaroo Hats They make awesome wide brim sun hats, with a built in adjustable band. They tend to really stay on in the wind too!

Ray Ban Classic, fashionable amazing sunnies that protect your eyes from the sun

July 4th Fashions Worthy of Fireworks!

With summer in full swing and July right around the corner, it’s time to think about July 4th! I absolutely LOVE this time of year. It’s so festive and fun. Here in Telluride we go all out for Independence Day celebrations. We have an iconic small town parade that increases the population of our mountain town by about 10X. It’s the time to wave an American flag, party with family & friends and of course, look your very best. All in red, white & blue. Here’s some of my favorite finds. Happy shopping!
