Before we get into talking about gooey and sweet dessert pizza I need to thank you for being such awesome grill buddies. We have come to the final week of Get Grillin’, Cookin’ Canuck and I had a blast collaborating with you for our first virtual summer BBQ. We have worked our way through 5 weeks of savory and now we get to talk about everyone’s favorite part of the meal…dessert!
Chocolate and cherries are a match made in heaven. Add ricotta cheese, nuts, pizza dough and the fire from your grill. Pure Magic.
We launched our grill event with Rouxbe and we are pleased to share them with you again. If you ever thought about going to cooking school here is your chance. We have a one year ($240 value!) Rouxbe membership for a lucky Get Grillin’ participant. This will give you full access to their wonderful cooking school. More on this below.
Don’t cherries just scream summer? Whenever I go to the market these days I come home with at least a pound of beautiful bright red cherries. We love them out of hand and also in our favorite recipes. Cherry Cranberry Oat Crisp and Chocolate Crepes with Cherry Jam and Ricotta Cheese are two you should try. They are great for any time of day, breakfast, dessert or snacks.
If I told you that the combo of cherries and chocolate put a little swagger in my step would you believe me? Well you should. This is happy food.
Topping these pizza’s with a handful of your favorite nuts give a nice little crunch.
Extra chocolate sauce doesn’t hurt either.
I got into the whole sweet pizza thing a few weeks ago and now I am addicted. Remember my Berry and Goat Cheese Pizza? Have you tried those yet? If not then you must. These a are sweeter than those, but not overly sweet. Make ’em as sweet as you want.
If you want a sweeter dessert serve with a side of chocolate sauce, lightly sweetened whipped cream, ice cream or frozen yogurt.
Can I show you my favorite new chocolate? When it comes to chocolate I prefer the darkest of the dark.
I was in Mother’s Market the other day and stumbled upon this 91% organic dark chocolate by Theo. The flavor is wonderful and it has the slightest hint of sweetness. Isn’t the wrapper beautiful? You can use your favorite chocolate in this recipe. Semi-sweet, milk or even white would be delicious.
I have been enjoying these for mini meals too. You can find me at my local Starbucks after I drop the kids off at camp with a tall Americano and a Chocolate Cherry Ricotta Pizza. Better than tearing open a power bar don’t you think?
They are also great for breakfast. If that’s the case then I whip up a side of eggs too for a protein boost. Also a side of applesauce. Breakfast is a big and grand event for me, as you know.
Have you ever made a grilled pizza? What are your favorite desserts for summer entertaining? Do you love chocolate as much as I do?

Oh Chocolate-Cherry! One of my favorites. I just did a post about making pizza on the grill- so so good! And Chipotle BBQ Tempeh. I’m loving the grill right now!
Nikita, isn’t pizza on the grill the BEST! It is so easy & quick to clean up too. Chipotle BBQ Tempeh sounds awesome. Do you have a recipe for that?
Sure do! http://lickthebowlclean.wordpress.com/2011/07/09/grills-just-want-to-have-fun/
Oh no! I changed my domain name today and just realized it is not going to redirect from the previous link. How frustrating 🙁
Here is the correct link: http://lacantinaencantada.wordpress.com/2011/07/09/grills-just-want-to-have-fun/
Thanks so much for that update. I did go over to check out your recipe earlier & it dead ended. I’ll pop over to see your new link 🙂
What a wonderful recipe and tutorial, thank you Marla for the clear pictures and instructions. This grilled pizza is a winner! My kids loved it and my daughters helped me make it. We used 75% dark chocolate chips and dark chocolate syrup. Dark chocolate is fantastic for weight loss here http://gooddietforwomen.blogspot.com/2014/05/how-to-be-thin-with-chocolate.html
Not entering but want to say….amazing pics!
Love Theo. Very good stuff 🙂

The good news is if you keep these sugar free or virtually sugar free & stick with portion control you got yourself one healthy little dessert. Promise. I had 1 or two per day and felt like a million bucks 🙂 The perfect way to enjoy cherries & chocolate!
Thanks for hosting this great grilling series! I’ll have so many awesome ideas to turn to this summer and for the future. Love this sweet pizza — it looks absolutely decadent and delicious!
A grilled dessert pizza sounds really interesting. Sweet, salty, smokiness…sounds great.
Oh my word.. these look absolutely SINFUL! I’m scared to save this recipe for fear I’ll actually make it, or worse.. EAT IT!
Erin…..do it. You gotta try these pizzas. Just promise me one thing – enjoy each and every bite. OK?!
What a fun dessert- so creative you are!!
Thanks Miss Lori 🙂 I am looking forward to following your summer travels again this year. xo
These look fantastic, Marla. I love the mixture of flavors and textures in this pizza. I can’t wait to see what dessert recipes come rolling in for Get Grillin’!
Hi Dara, this will be such a fun week at Get Grillin’ I know our readers have tons of GREAT dessert recipes to share with us 🙂
What a great recipe! Is there any better combination than cherries and chocolate? Add that fired up over a grill and you’ve got a definite winner! Thanks for sharing this fun grilling recipe series!
I am in LOVE with anything grilled. I just so happen to be in LOVE with pizza. And it also just so happens that I’m in LOVE with chocolate. OH, and guess what, I’m in LOVE with ricotta, too!
In all, I’m in LOVE with this post.
I added your badge to my blog side bar
Looks like the perfect summer dessert!
Marla – what fun – pizza for dessert and the classic chocolate cherry combination!
I’m so pleasantly surprised to see this recipe from you – you know I’m a pizza fanatic – although not whilst on my 30 day make over – I think of you everyday walking the stairs as we all took the escalator at camp and now park my car as far from the grocery store as possible for the extra walk – are you proud of me?!!!
Lucy, seriously I am so proud of you. Love visiting your blog and seeing the lean & mean food plan. As long as you eat small meals regularly throughout the day you will do great. Gotta keep the body and mind in perfect balance. Next year we will hit up those stairs together OK? *kisses*
Wow, Marla, what a cool idea! I’ve never seen anything like this. Your photography is always so amazing. 🙂
I’ve been great–keeping busy with a thousand projects! What about you? We should hang out sometime. I’d love to catch up.
xoxo
Jen
Hi Jen! Would love to catch up with you some day soon. A thousand projects? I totally know the feeling. Feel like I am busier for summer break than I am usually. That’s a good thing though 🙂
I could go for a slice right now! Great to see you at EVO. Come back this winter for ski season:)
Maria, visiting you this winter is certainly my plan. Wanna see that baby of yours & hit up those Utah mountains. xxoo
I linked up my oatmeal brownie milky way bars… 🙂
Thanks Amanda….now can you make them for me 🙂
Looks so good, I have been wanting to do grilled pizza for a while, and just haven’t gotten around to it. Love your photos too!
Thanks Angie, they are so quick & easy. Hopefully you can grill up some pizza’s soon. So worth it!
This is gorgeous!!!
I have been eating cherries like crazy lately, so this looks so amazing!! Thanks for linking my Grilled Chocolate Sandwiches!!
Those chocolate sandwiches look so good Deborah. Thanks for stopping by 🙂
Cherries are my all-time favorite summer goodie, Marla! Love your use of them here in a dessert pizza. These are so cute and would be a ton of fun to make at a BBQ!
What a great idea! I love that you’ve used a regular pizza dough for this… how easy and yes– so summertime!
I love the sweet pizza idea, especially grilled. What a great combination of flavors, too!
I just did a ricotta/cherry pizza dolce and made a crust instead of using the standard; a dough. Next time it will have to be the standard so I can do it outside on the grill…great idea!
I am speechless this is awesome~
Delicious looking pizza, and love that you can eat this for breakfast! Cherries remind me of summer too!
This looks delicious! If I don’t make my own pizza crust I love to use Trader Joe’s. Their whole wheat pizza dough is amazing!
Holy yum, those cherry pizzas look sensational! I love to grill pizzas this time of year (usually savory) and almost always add pine nuts to the top. Old habits die hard.
Absolutely love sweet pizza! Oh Marla! You are making me hungry early morning.
Such a fabulous idea to do a dessert pizza. I haven’t tried grilled pizza yet, but it’s on my to do list.
The ricotta chocolate cherry dessert sounds amazing!! Thank you for inviting me!!!

I just added you on instagram:-)
I love the fact that you bring it to starbucks! Totally something I would do, and the american (only with an extra shot ;)) Beautiful recipe.
Kristin, I need that extra shot too in my Americano….especially before a workout. The pastry cases do not tempt me at all. I get so excited to unwrap one of these pizzas 🙂
Those dessert pizzas look so tempting with all the fresh ingredients!
don’t get me wrong, i love a savory pizza, but this is outstanding! terrific combination of flavors, marla!

A dessert pizza with ricotta sounds amazing! I’ve grilled “traditional” main course pizzas before, but nothing like this. Definitely must try!
Sarah, you gotta try dessert on the grill. Life changing!
I entered 3 skinny desserts and are now following CookinCanuck on Twitter.
Great contest and job with your site!
Thanks for entering 3 awesome skinny desserts. They look great!
I love my magherita pizza, but sometimes chocolate wins. 🙂
These look so scrumptious! I love the combination and cherries are just so delicious!
Well now I know what to make for my next cherry-full dessert! (Although, if I ate these for lunch, would you blame me?) They look amazing!

I hope it doesn’t have the smoked or lighter fluid taste, a gas grill might be best.

Yummom, my 2 very best friends. Choc & Cherry. Sooo good! And it’s a pizza too. Holy smokes, I’m craving this right now. :)))
Oh how I love thee… I always play up my pizzas, but I’ve never done what you did here…can’t wait to try!
I entered my S’mores Ice Cream! 🙂
Kate, S’mores ice cream looks awesome! My kids would love if you made this for them 😉
YES, I remember your Berry and Goat Cheese Pizza! I still dream about them 😀
And I try to figure out how to veganise them, but it is not that easy! At least I know what is on top of my to-make-list if I ever go vegetaran again (not vegan).
These looks just as good! I love less-sweet desserts, and of course everything chocolate-y! You have such a wonderful creativity- thats why I love to visit your blog so much!
I wish you a beautiful weekend 🙂
I’m just gonna have to get that grill going with some pizza dough! The thought of cherries and chocolate are making my mouth water! 🙂
We make grilled pizza on our Big Green Egg (love!) all the time. We’re actually having a pizza party on Friday with about 20 people. I’m going to make the toppings ahead and let people make their own pizzas. My poor husband’s going to be stuck outside at the grill the whole night! 😉
Great little dessert pizzas! They look so elegant!
Oh, yum, Marla. I want some chocolate now.
OMG Chocolate cherry grilled pizza! Genious absolute genious!
