Looking for an amazing new gluten free cake to add to your recipe box? BOOM!
Look no further than this Gluten Free Chocolate Sour Cream Cake that I invented over the weekend.
I have been all over the place…my mind races with food, portrait & landscape photography.
One minute i’m thinking about cake.
the next vintage trucks…
the next red barns…
the next BIG mountains…
I mean really ~ this gal has lots going on in the noggin. Let’s get back to cake.
Coffee/snack breaks are the perfect time to enjoy a healthy cake like this. I even had some for breakfast. This would be awesome served at a shower, brunch or tea party.
This cake is made with gluten free oat flour, unsweetened cocoa powder and sour cream. All of which make for an excellent crumb.
Pure maple syrup sweetens everything perfectly without any refined sugars. This cake is not too sweet but just sweet enough.
The homemade whipped topping rounds everything off wonderfully & adds some more sweet flavors.

Oat flour is something I have not tried yet. Genius recipe, Marla! Wish I was enjoying a slice right now.
Aimee ~ you would love it. Grab a bag & start baking 🙂
First of all, you need to be shooting for all of the magazines. Just incredible.
Second of all, I need to be eating all of this cake. Like, all of it.
Love having a gluten-free dessert recipe on hand for when my gluten-free guests come over! Thanks for sharing!
This looks fabulous! I love all your gluten-free creations that you’ve been whipping up!
A wonderful cake! Oh, you are lucky to live in such a gorgeous place. Thanks for sharing your beautiful pictures with us.
Cheers,
Rosa
I may be crazy, but did you leave out the chocolate in the ingredient list?
OMG ~ Thanks sooooo much for catching that. 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder. Adding now 🙂
This looks yummy, but I think something is missing from the recipe…chocolate! Can you update?
Yes! Adding now. Thank you 🙂
Awesome photos and that gluten free cake looks amazing!
fabulous looking Marla! AS ALWAYS
I have got to start using different flours but in Austria it’s still quite hard to find anything other than wheat or spelt flour.
Absolutely love the look of this cake 🙂
Hi Antonia! You can try grinding whole grain oats in the food processor until you have a fine powder/flour 🙂
Loving all of your stunning photos and this cake looks heavenly!! Wish I had a slice right now!
Awwwww, thanks so much Liz!
Some of my fave cakes/muffins have sour cream (or greek yog) in them. Cannot beat it for moisture and texture. Stunning images and that you kept this GF! Amazing!
I love that this is gluten free- I am going to make it for my daughter very soon!
Yum! Gorgeous cake, Marla! 🙂
I have oat flour in my freezer, so i will have to try this out for my girls. It looks like it does indeed have a nice crumb. And who can say no to chocolate? Your photos are lovely.
Beautiful chocolate sour cream cake and inspiring photos, Marla! I enjoy baking gluten-free and grain-free, too. It is so much fun when you can do the “Gluten Free Victory Dance” over a new creation to help others with their diets. Thanks ever so much for sharing, girl. Pinning to group boards at Pinterest! xo
What a nice gluten free chocolate cake!

Beautiful photos! This looks like the perfect anytime cake… breakfast. snack. afternoon pick me up. You get my drift ;).
I have yet to try sour cream in a cake, but after looking at this gorgeous cake i have too! Wow, such stunning photos (of the cake and the scenery). The cake look perfect moist and crumbly all at the same time. YUM!
Gorgeous photos, Marla! The cake looks fantastic!
Thank you for sharing this recipe and your beautiful images, Marla! You really have an eye for the perfect shot. Such a treat to pour through this post!
Bingo! This is exactly what I needed! I bake GF for friends all the time, and chocolate is missing in my repertoire.
