This apple butter is like nothing you have ever tasted. It is rich, creamy,ย vegan and absolutely irresistible. What makes it so different? I roasted all of the ingredients before I purรฉed them. What you have here my friends is a dip that doubles as a applesauce and creamy, guilt free spread.
Enjoy it throughout the day with crackers, toast or crusty baguette. Or by the spoonful.
I slather it on pancakes and french toast. Also crusty whole grain bread like this…
Looking for a fun way to eat veggies? Dip carrots in your apple butter…
Dip apple in Maple Coconut Apple Butter.
Try a whole bunch of things and let me know what you dipped. Or what you spread this on. Or if you just ate it by the spoonful.
Roasted, oven baked apples….not only do they smell amazing but they bring out the richest flavor possible. I love roasting all kinds of fruits and vegetables.
The caramelization the heat creates is like nothing else.
For this recipe you must roast first. I pinky promise it is well worth your time.
Don’t forget a steamy cup of coffee ~ it makes everything better at breakfast time doesn’t it?
Do you ever make apple butter? Any unique twists or flavors to your recipe?

Thanks for the link-back! I love your site–the colors in your photos are gorgeous! I’ve only started to attempt vegan baking/cooking, so I’ll have to add this to my repertoire ๐
Never made apple butter, but I love to eat it! I also like pumpkin butter. Your recipe looks extra delish with the addition of coconut.
Thanks Janae! I hope you get to try this homemade apple butter really soon ๐
A delicious spread! Very flavorful.
Cheers and happy Monday,
Rosa
Thank you so much for the mention and link-back. You have an absolutely beautiful site.
I love all of these amazing condiments (like the pumpkin whipped cream!) that you are coming up with- so delicious!
Wow Marla – this looks so light and fluffy – I think I could spread this on just about anything ๐
Can’t wait to hear how you use this Jeanette!
I love the idea of this complex flavorful apple butter – but what made me chuckle was reading your post as if it was a 50 shades recipe:
“Try a whole bunch of things and let me know what you dipped. Or what you spread this on…” Has family Fresh gone X rated?!!!
LL
sounds so good Marla! Hope you had a great weekend
Thanks Alison! The weekend was swell, but wow did it fly by!
apples, coconut oil, maple, all ‘butter-ized’ and so creamy looking – you outdid yourself! I could eat this by the container-full!
Thanks Averie, this is certainly a recipe I could see you diving into ๐
I LOVE this recipe. For some reason I have a hard time getting my hands on Pink Ladies here in Arizona, but I’m going to get this butter done with Honey Crisps and I can’t wait – just lovely!!
Meagan, I am sure you can’t go wrong with any apple variety. Since readers sometimes ask I figured I would mention my favorites!
Just when apple butter couldn’t get any better….the maple and coconut sound AMAZING! ๐ I love it!
Ali, the maple ~ coconut & the roasting certainly sets this apart! Hopefully you can try it soon ๐
looks delicious Marla! I made pumpkin butter last year, but I’ve never made Apple Butter.
Cheryl, I love pumpkin butter & I remember when you posted it. I say a spoonful of each on a piece of toast would be heavenly!
Pretty sure I would be eating it by the spoonful! This sounds fantastic!
Jessica, it’s tough not to ๐
I’m so hungry right now I could eat a bowl of that beautiful stuff!
Brooke, I just made another batch. Come on over!
What a great idea! This is so unique and your photos are lovely ๐
Thanks so much Katrina!
Yum! This looks like the perfect compliment to up the ante on a variety of snacks!
This recipe sounds divine! Do you know if it’s canning-friendly? As in, would it stand up to a ten minute boiling water bath?
Okay, so the apples are roasting in the oven as I type this. Can’t wait for the finished butter! I just need to find a BIG spoon ๐
Okay, the apples are roasting in the oven as I type this. Can’t wait for the butter to be done. Now I just need to find a big spoon!
I want to spread this on everything!
I’m so imagining this slathered on a piece of dark, toasted seedy bread to accompany my coffee on a cold morning!! Love it!!!
I love this so much! I was just talking to someone about how much I love when a recipe is so beautifully, “accidentally” vegan. No substitutions or excuses just a celebration of produce. This is totally one of those recipes. Pinning immediately!
Oh my goodness, this apple butter looks divine. Pinned!
I love all these flavors. Looks so good!
just made this butter for the first time …it is amazing..my whole house smelt delicious..roasting the apples absolutely makes all the difference. going to use these for thanksgiving gifts.once roasted the apples as is make a very delicious desert as is added to Greek yogurt or coconut whipped cream added to it. I used Honey Crisp mainly with a few Fuiji apples. key to remember is to use ONLY organic apples as skin is used so you dont get shellaced skin (google what shellac is made from and you will never not use organic apples) . thanks Marla ๐
I have never made apple butter before, but I keep seeing all these amazing looking recipes and now I cant wait to try it ๐
Thanks for mentioning my Apple Butter Bran Muffins! And I love all these other ideas. The more apple butter, the better!
I’ve been dying to make apple butter and keep putting it off: must make this ASAP! You are so inspiring, Marla!
I want to slather this delicious butter on everything!!
Just loving the sound of making butter with apples and coconut! What creamy texture and lovely color..will change the way I eat my breakfast sandwiches.
Snajeeta, this would go so well in all kinds of breakfast sandwiches. Enjoy!
If I had some of this in my fridge it would be gone within days/hours ๐
That is exactly why you need to make a double batch ~ so you can rest assured you have enough for two days ๐
Holy heaven, Marla! That looks sensational. I love the idea of dipping veggies in it as well. ๐
What a inspired butter! I love coconut oil…and so I’m sure this would be a hit. Especially with a loaf of freshly baked bread. Thank you for sharing good food and inspiring words. Much needed on this somewhat cooler October morning. I hope you are having a wonderful day!
I’ve never tried to make my own apple butter but that may change soon–just picked a ton of apples from our trees and I have more than I need for pie. ๐ Love the sound of your recipe. ๐
I just love apple butter, Marla! I’ve never made my own, but where I grew up in Kitchener-Waterloo, Canada, we were lucky enough to have a very present Mennonite community, and they made and sold the yummiest apple butter. To be honest, it’s never dawned on me to make it myself, so I look forward to giving your recipe a try! Truly beautiful images too, Marla. xo
Oh Marla I am loving the flavors in this butter! I recently made cashew butter and literally want to dive into the jar and live it it! This looks like another one of those kind of recipes!
By the spoonful, definitely by the spoonful!
This sounds so good, and you can use it in so many things.
I love this! I’ve never made apple butter with coconut oil. Love the idea!
Just came across this site few nights ago, and this looks AMAZING. I’ve been wanting a healthy fruit spread for some time now and this would definitely do the trick and be so simple for someone like me who is basically a beginner in the kitchen. Dying to try this out. Question though, do you core and seed the apples before you roast them or do you use the entire apple in this? You didn’t specify, I’m inclined to think you use it all but wanted to check.
Great question Adam! Actually I sliced the apples into 1/4″ pieces (tossed the core & seeds) prior to baking. Enjoy!
I just made this today, and its absolutely phenomenal. SO wish I would have doubled the recipe, as it was gone before I knew it. Rich, creamy flavor-it was awesome on toasted Ezekiel bread! Thanks for sharing this recipe!
Hi Jen! I am so glad you were able to try this. It is certainly one of our favorite spreads and I agree a double batch is necessary.
We always have a few jars of apple butter in the cabinet… totally going to have to make a batch of this.
Holy cow, this was delicious!! OMG!! We made it for a “Taste of ___” competition during maple sugaring time. I think some people were a bit put off by the title, because it sounds kinda weird. But I told them that this was deceptively delicious. It wasn’t very sweet, and you can’t really taste the coconut. It was absolutely awesome!! I did see a few people write this down for the competition (no word on who won).
We had a bit left over, and I was glad, because my son got to try it, and we added some Crown Royal Maple to it. OMG, I didn’t think it could get any better, but it did!! I want to make another batch, just so I can eat it all!
Thank you – this was AWESOME!!
I just realized that I peeled the apples when I made it. Guess it didn’t matter much.
BTW, I want to eat it by the spoonful.
I’m thrilled to hear about this competition & that you chose my recipe to try for the win! I wish I could try that freshly tapped syrup.
